Until God ordains otherwise, a man ought to bear patiently whatever he cannot correct in himself and in others. Imitation of Christ by John Kempis

Thanksgiving and Family

We all go to family functions and Thanksgiving is the most attended.   Sometimes we dread it and sometimes it is really fun.  We are happiest when we are Thankful for everything in our lives.  Trouble starts when we begin to judge and start stinking thinking about something we have not forgiven.  We are always justified in this mental masturbation, of self pity and criticism of our perceived enemy.  This usually happens when our hearts have been hardened with sin.  We are proud and do not turn to God and repent of the negative thinking.  We are in denial of our own participation into the supposed enemy we have imagined.  In our own superiority we will criticize and gossip to cover our own inferiority.  We find those who feel the same way about the enemy, which reassures us that we are ok in our sin.

In my own family, I have 3 boys and 1 girl.  The boys say that I favor the girl and the girl say I favor the boys.  I tell them to tell each other and we all laugh.  We all have unresolved issues with parents and siblings.  Our world is in great need for us all to understand each other better.  First we have to understand ourselves.  It is good to look at your reactions and ask yourself, when did this feeling start.  Ask God to heal your wound so you do not wound others and forgive all.

luke 15: 11-32

Then he said, “A man had two sons,

and the younger son said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’ So the father divided the property between them.

After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings and set off to a distant country where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation.g

When he had freely spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he found himself in dire need.

So he hired himself out to one of the local citizens who sent him to his farm to tend the swine.

And he longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed, but nobody gave him any.

Coming to his senses he thought, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have more than enough food to eat, but here am I, dying from hunger.

I shall get up and go to my father and I shall say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.

I no longer deserve to be called your son; treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers.”’

So he got up and went back to his father. While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.

His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I no longer deserve to be called your son.’

But his father ordered his servants, ‘Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.

Take the fattened calf and slaughter it. Then let us celebrate with a feast,

because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found.’ Then the celebration began.

Now the older son had been out in the field and, on his way back, as he neared the house, he heard the sound of music and dancing.

He called one of the servants and asked what this might mean.

The servant said to him, ‘Your brother has returned and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’

He became angry, and when he refused to enter the house, his father came out and pleaded with him.

He said to his father in reply, ‘Look, all these years I served you and not once did I disobey your orders; yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on with my friends.

But when your son returns who swallowed up your property with prostitutes, for him you slaughter the fattened calf.’

He said to him, ‘My son, you are here with me always; everything I have is yours.

But now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.’

I am healing your nation.  Be open to healing in your family.  There is time still to be totally healed.  Pray for the terrible destruction to be avoided by repenting.  Turn from your wicked ways.  Turn away from Pride, Fear, Self Pity, Bitterness and Unforgiveness and being Judgemental.  Confess your sin.  I am a loving god who wishes only your best, repent!  Be healed and delivered.  Then I will heal and deliver your nation.  Give me all y our cares, worries, and hopes.  I am the Lord your God and only I can change things for the better.  Confess and Repent.

Let’s look at the older brother’s resentment for doing what is right.  He has stayed and put up with the father and done what it is right.  Did he do it from the kindness of his heart?  Or was it to be superior?  Did he know how much his father loved him?  I think he thought that He had to earn his fathers favor by doing what was right.  He did not love his brother and want what was best for him.  Pride blinded him so much that was enraged at the prodigals return and did not see the miracle of the his brothers changed heart.  I so relate to this thinking that if I do what is right God will be happy with me.  But God wants my heart to understand His Merciful love.  I do not have to make that happen, God gives it freely.  God makes everything work for good for those who love Him.

In conclusion the Prodigal gets it.  He knew that his father would accept him back.  He was so sorry for his sin and was welcomed with open arms by the father.  This is what God does for us.

Which brings me to Thanks Giving with family.  It is a time to be grateful for each and everyone of our family members.  Look for the good things and ignore the bad.  Go to the family with the same forgiveness of the Father.  The World doesn’t need anymore dissension and anger.  What the World needs now is Love.

This was a message on Facebook the day I wrote this message

Today God wants us to know that love is the opposite of logic.

Logic is argumentative, aggressive upon the mind, splits the world into right and wrong, us and them. Love is generative, compassionate, embracing all creation. Logic pays attention to what is being said. Love pays attention to how things are said. Logic leads to debate. Love leads to communion. Practice love to be closer to God.
